Health authorities in several African countries are waging a battle against so-called “female Viagra” drugs – like Finasteride and Propecia – as they claim to help with a range of medical problems.
Finasteride and Propecia are two of the most commonly prescribed drugs in Africa, and have been linked to sexual dysfunction. Heart-related side effects were nearly triple the rate of those seen in patients taking either of the the drugs. In addition to the new-onset cardiovascular problems, the risks were even higher for new users of Finasteride and Propecia who had a history of those heart problems.
Along the way, Finasteride and Propecia were shown to have led to a sharp increase in the prevalence of sudden drops in blood pressure. These events are thought to occur during the initial stages of sexual stimulation, and are thought to be caused by the drug’s effects on nerve signals that control blood pressure.

Some of the more serious side effects involving the skin of the face, tongue or throat were also double the rates of those caused by Finasteride and Propecia.
